Featured by Pet Sitters International: How Every Job Led Me to Pet Sitting
I’m incredibly honored to share that I was recently featured by Pet Sitters International in an article titled “How I Ended Up Here.” The article dives into my journey and how every job, experience, and chapter of my life unexpectedly prepared me for my career in professional pet sitting.
When people think about pet sitting, they often imagine it as simply walking dogs or feeding pets. But for me, building Bootsy's Buddies Pet Care has been the culmination of years of learning how to care for people, solve problems under pressure, communicate clearly, manage logistics, build trust, and create meaningful connections.
Looking back, I can now see how every role I ever had contributed something important:
Learning customer service and communication
Managing schedules and organization
Building relationships and earning trust
Staying calm in high-pressure situations
Creating memorable experiences for clients
Understanding that attention to detail truly matters
All of those skills became the foundation for the personalized, one-on-one care we provide at Bootsy’s Buddies today.
One of the biggest themes in the article is that sometimes your path doesn’t make sense until you’re already walking it. I never could have predicted that all of my previous experiences would eventually lead me to a career centered around animals — but now I truly cannot imagine doing anything else.
Caring for pets is deeply personal work. We are trusted with beloved family members, routines, homes, medications, anxieties, senior care, puppy energy, quirky personalities, and emotional bonds that matter enormously to people. That trust means everything to me.
What started as a love for animals has grown into a business and community that I’m incredibly proud of. From adventurous beach walks and puppy training moments to caring for senior pets and administering medications, every day brings something meaningful.
Being recognized by Pet Sitters International feels especially rewarding because PSI represents professionalism, education, and excellence within the pet care industry. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to share my story and reflect on the winding road that brought me here.
